Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
Moderator: Mods
I'll make a post in just a sec. I didn't get a lot of photos because I was working or otherwise busy most of the time.
Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
waht a long second! post them pics!
Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
meanwhile dig this from the last 2 months,
so ive been working on the front end last weekend, got the facia off after breaking 3 spoiler studs, found a bit of damage to the underbody on the left front corner, its not bad though. also removed the cowl grill under the widsheild without breaking the window:biggrin: but i had to cut the grill in 2 pieces to remove it, at least it will be properly clean under it, dug out a few lbs of debris in the vent ducting.

finally clean again, i find scrubbing bubbles works wonders on the fiberglass

Ok here is the on board view of 1768's track debut, sorry its so shitty quality, just mute it and image the sound of a Lamborgini gallardo LP640 ripping through its powerband, you can see later in the video i do let loose and try some cornesr at speed and punch it on the straights, it was a ton of fun, Right click and open in a new window/tab...

Still been ripping the front apart lately. In the process ive now managed to break off EVERY stud that secures front spoiler to the bumper and fenders. im going to have to glue in new ones i guess, just about every piece of hardware ive removed has been severly rusted so im replacing everything with stainless screws and bolts.

Also found that the car may have been in a minor accident a while ago, the left front corner of the undebody is broken off, its not structual but id like to repair it anyway. also i plan on getting about 50-100lbs of lead bricks and securing them behind the gille and lights, and in the little void where the jack and tire changing tools store, this should help fix the horrible rear weight bias that it has, Porsche did something simular to this for a number of years on earlier 911s. ill see how it works

it would be a good time to remove the AC lines for flushing i suppose. ill want working R134a AC next spring

Still Rocking my Pacecar stickers

]
front end is still apart, i decided to dig deeper and look for any more potential problems, such as the nasty cooling pipes that are ready to leak. also im still on the look out for some sort of Brick shaped amount of lead weights.
since i broke off EVERY single stud on the front spoiler while removing it i drilled them out and installed stainless bolts, infact im replacing every piece of hardware with stainless in an attempt to add 20 more years of easy service.

cleaned some front hardware, ready for POR15

lots to clean here

frame isnt looking that great up front, some more metal work is coming

finally got the brake access panel off

Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
from pics it looked like you had one mounted centrally or was that the same footage?
Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
2 cameras for 2 different people that wanted a video taken, I'd wager the videos are pretty much the same.
Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
the center mount was a much better quality one that faced rearward,

Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
took the car outside to get some more good pics,as i realized i didnt have any good ones, also tuned it abit, she was running a bit rich so i fixed that and got the timing and idle a bit better, still finding more electrical faults this time with the dash services fuse, need to install a better fuse box sooner than later. running the louverless look as they are being repaired by a canoe builder friend.

Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
more nice pics
and that center cam footage was much better plus the exciting shots from the race car as well
I definitely digg the Atari license plate frame

HAHAHA! YES took the car on the freeway for the first time!! shes all legal! woo hoo! so fun!!!
the car did great for its first real world performance test with me. noticed a few minor things:
steering wheel still pointed at 4o' clock, makes reading the non functional speedo hard and kinda uncomfortable hand placement
oil preassure always good
water temp was just below the first notch, fans never on, seems a bit cold huh? outside temp about 59'F
oil level and handbrake light always glow ( very low feedback to the LEDS i suspect)
front end still squeaking alot, but not horridly
pulls to the left a bit, i realigned it a the dyno day, 1/16" toe in front, it had maybe 1/32" in the rear so im thinking brakes or tire pressures also still has about 20' of steering slop.
strange front end whurr, sounds like a dry speedo cable spining or rough wheel bearings, but its very quite, could just be wind noise
shift works quite nicely but getting over to the left for 1&2 requires more effot than i like
brakes are strong but a bit numb untill you get on them which they become touchy
a few rattles from the left door on left hand turns and a near constant rattle of the exhuast u pipe heat shield
and the visibility is that of an 80's exotic, even with the louvers off the rear view in minimal
alright got another list to do!

Re: Wolffy's Project #334 -' 81Delorean
so ive put about 100miles on the car, still havent gotten the new angle drive in, im having trouble getting the old one out after i remove the outer nut.
also it seems the fuel pump check valve has died, i lose high fuel pressure after about 30 seconds after it shuts off, after the engine gets the least bit warm it will not restart unless you get out and depress the metering plate for about 3 seconds, i have a remote start switch in the engine bay to perform the start back there. if the engine were to stop/stall when warm and i immediatley crank it again it will start normally, still a pain. also ive been doing the diagnostics of getting the ISC system working again, remember how i bypassed the ISC valve? the problem is electrical, power not getting to the computer. so first off i took all three computer out and cleaned the pins and and grounds, the microswitch has continuity so if it doesnt work now ill look for a shorted wire.
Other elctrical problems have arisen, the high beams always glow when the low beams are on, and the right turn signal blinks alternately of right headlights, so the front facia will be coming off again to repair the ground in that corner. Im thinking i will add a new ground wire between the lights and go to the frame. Tachometer gound is failing too, the more electrical load that is the car's system the high the tach reads, sometimes 3k rpms too high, but that is only when the lights, wipers, radio, and heater fan is on, wiggling the ground next to the radio helped.
Other than those issues and alot of squeaks and a rattling center console, its driving pretty nicely, i just love how well she cruises, i could drive her all day!
Shes getting dirty out there, ive been driving in the rain too, shes no show queen!

got the louvers back from the canoe builder friend for the crack repairs, im less than impressed so im going to have to fix it myself too.

it may be ugly but this spring is the only way i can get the throttle arm to seat fully and allow me to have WOT, the throttle spool needs a stronger spring.

im getting somewhere atleast:biggrin:
